ایک یہودی ( کعب احبار اسلام لانے سے پہلے ) نے حضرت عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا : اے امیرالمؤمنین ! اگر ہمارے یہاں سورہ مائدہ کی یہ آیت نازل ہوتی کہ ” آج میں نے تمہارے لیے تمہارے دین کو مکمل کر دیا اور تم پر اپنی نعمت کو پورا کر دیا اور تمہارے لیے اسلام کو بطور دین کے پسند کر لیا ۔“ تو ہم اس دن کو عید ( خوشی ) کا دن بنا لیتے ۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میں جانتا ہوں کہ یہ آیت کس دن نازل ہوئی تھی ، عرفہ کے دن نازل ہوئی اور جمعہ کا دن تھا ۔ امام بخاری نے کہا یہ روایت سفیان نے مسعر سے سنی ، مسعر نے قیس سے سنا اور قیس نے طارق سے ۔
